Koh Samui’s Choeng Mon Beach

Located on Koh Samui’s far northeastern part, paradisiacal Choeng Mon Beach area boasts several gorgeous and tranquil bays, representing some of the island’s finest lodging options. This location juts out from the other parts of Samui, with the principal road cutting a more direct road through the tropical island, contributing in the beaches’ calmer atmosphere. This island destination is favoured amongst families, and travellers seeking relaxation, without the other beach areas’ nightlife scene. Private residences occupy a considerable amount of territory. However, a selection of good accommodation is still on offer here.

One of Koh Samui’s most stunning, the major Choeng Mon Beach attracts many visitors who come here to fully unwind. The more active visitor will find a range of water sports. Koh Fan Yai is a small island positioned just off coast which, at low tide, can be reached on foot. You can reach the tiny island by a nice kayak trip as well.

There is no significant village to speak of here, and most holidaymakers tend to have their meals where they stay, although a few restaurants can be found a little further from the beach, within a short distance of the Choeng Mon Buri Hotel. Big Buddha and Bo Phut to the west and Chaweng to the south, can easily be reached from here, and feature more vibrant nightlife entertainment options.

In this area there are some superb first-class accommodation establishments; one of the islands finest, the Samui Peninsula Resort and Spa boasts a number of luxurious villas and rooms along with a private beach and first class spa facility. More outstanding villas are provided by the Sala Samui Resort and Spa, most facilitated with private pools. Boasting its own private beach, Thongsai Bay is another extremely luxurious resort. Each of the resorts has a superb on-site restaurant.

Choeng Mon’s disadvantage is that due to the destination’s isolated location, the public transportation options are rather limited transportation options. Songthaews run here, but aren’t nearly as frequent as at the other main beach areas. Arranging a taxi isn’t difficult, and your hotel or resort will be glad to help, but renting a motorcycle or car might be a perfect option it is a good option if visiting the island’s other parts is included in your travel plans.
