Koh Samui’s gardens and waterfalls

Hidden in Koh Samui’s hills, the secret Buddha garden houses waterfalls, temples and several statues, all of which were constructed over the last two decades by one man. You’ll need to travel by a 4WD truck to reach the garden, traversing mountains, rivers and jungle.

Departing from Lamai, this adventurous trip will take about two hours. The adventure-minded travellers will certainly appreciate the journey. However, if you’re planning to explore the secret garden this way, having some off-road driving experience is recommended; otherwise you shouldn’t forget to bring your mobile phone along (preferably with a GPS tracker!) should you get stuck.
An alternative and probably less problematic way of reaching the area is by participating in one of the numerous jungle treks organised by tour agencies and hotels.

Blessed with a beautiful hillside location on the island’s southeast corner is Na Tian Butterfly Garden. This attraction is home to some of the world’s most stunning butterflies. Don’t forget to bring your camera along!

Located within less than 1.5 miles of Nathon Town, the Hin Lat Falls are set amidst lush jungle. From the chief road it is about a two-mile hike down a jungle track to reach the waterfalls. Make sure you wear solid walking shoes. The strenuous walk through the concrete jungle will rapidly be forgotten once you’ve reached the falls. Here you’ll be revitalised by several soothing cascades that gently tumble down into a spacious pool below. The water’s temperature at the bottom of the pool is cold and certainly refreshing.

The Hin Ta and Hin Yai rocks’ bizarre formations are known in English as the Grandmother and Grandfather Rocks.
