Bangkok protests!!
Posted by Full mooner on April 29th, 2010 filed in Action, SafetyIf it has escaped your notice what is currently going on in Bangkok at the moment, you must have been staying in your room with no television, no mobile phone and absolutely no contact with another living soul.
Ignorance is bliss when staying more than 700 kilometres away from what the British would call ‘the troubles’. It has been said on many international news agencies that Bangkok has become a ‘war zone’ and tourists should stay well away. One word from me… and that is rubbish.
The wife and I were only in Bangkok last week and staying in the Khao San area where it is notoriously cheap. While there we thought of heading to MBK Shopping Centre, but discovered this is where most of the protests were going on, so decided against it.
In the two days staying in the basking hot capital the only red shirt I saw was worn by a drunk Englishman, and it had a number 4 on the back with Gerrard above it. Sure there are some dangerous things going on right now, but to avoid Bangkok altogether is ridiculous.
What I want to say is that Bangkok IMO is fine to head to, but just do a little research before heading out. There are many other places to shop, sightsee, eat and drink in Bangkok, that will ensure that a trip will not be spoilt.
