World Cup watching
Posted by Full mooner on June 10th, 2010 filed in bars & beersIt comes around but once every four years and gives us football mad foreigners the chance for an international banter with friends and acquaintances all over the island, the only problem is that the last match kicks off at 01:30 in the morning.
In a lot of countries this would be little of a problem with 24-hour drinking laws now installed in many home cities and towns, and true to force it should not be a problem in Samui. Although it is a slight grey area in Thailand, as to whether bars are meant to shut at midnight or 02:00 in the morning, but there will be no problems with bars staying open for the final match.
There are a few bars situated around the island that offer sports screens so you can stay up all night watching football while enjoying a Singha. Thai people love football, so don’t be surprised to find yourself sat in the midst of Thais and other foreigners. In some of the quieter areas, it may be hard to locate an open bar, but the local 7/11 convenience is a sure bet.
If you want to watch the late match, do a scout around for options and then make sure they will be open and showing your match, the last thing you want to do is miss it. It can be a late night so make sure you’ve stuffed your belly with food before dropping those beers inside.
