Nestled in the hills of Koh Samui is the Secret Buddha Garden, which is also known as the Magic Garden or Uncle Nimm’s Garden.

Construction work on the garden began in 1976 and has continued for over 20 years. Nim Thongsukat, at the age of 77, was responsible of the creation of this secret hideaway. He drew inspiration from Buddhism and the tranquil surroundings to create the Secret Buddha Garden.

When you arrive you can take a walk through the beautiful garden, which is decorated with sculptures of people and deities. Among the flowers are temples and adding to the beauty of the scenery are waterfalls. Streams run through the garden creating a relaxing atmosphere. Other features of this interesting attraction include stone carvings and small houses.

There is an entrance fee to enter the garden and you should set aside at least half an hour to spend at this site. The garden is the ideal setting to take photos and photos with one of the Buddha statues is a popular option.

The garden is surrounded by forest and can be reached by an organised tour or by jeep through the forest. The tours include other popular attractions in Koh Samui. Tours begin at the Lamai temple and it takes 2 hours to reach The Secret Buddha Garden. If you drive your own jeep to the site the path is difficult and only experienced jeep drivers should attempt the route.

The other access point is a military road that is not open for tourists. It is recommended to stop along the way and enjoy the views from Koh Samui’s highest point. Views stretch across the north and south of the island and you can even catch a glimpse of the surrounding islands
