Monkey Shows

Man’s best friend in this paradise is no other than the monkey! With an island full of luscious coconut trees, monkeys are prized animals for their ability to get to the delicious coconuts as well as their industrialness. So, when people ask me what they can do while visiting Koh Samui, one of my first responses is to see a monkey show. For the best show in town, head straight to the monkey theatre on the ring road behind Bophut Village to take in their top show. Just ask at your hotel or guest house, and they’ll be able to help with directions and reservations.
The monkey show is an absolute must for those with children! The monkeys are incredible. Not only do they scurry up trees and perform all kinds of tricks, these monkeys can play the guitar! Some of the acts even require audience participation, so make sure you’re sitting right up the front so that you can be the lucky one chosen to get up on stage. The monkey show really has something for everyone. Following the main monkey act, you’ll see a coconut picking performance, and then be treated to an elephant show. There’s even the chance to ride the elephants when the show’s over.
Shows run three times a day in the morning, afternoon and evening, which gives you plenty of chances to check out this fascinating piece of local culture, and still leaves you ample time to soak up the sun on the island’s renowned beaches.
