Exploring Angthong National Park

The Angthon national park is protected natural area consisting of 40 islands which are inhabited and undeveloped expect for one which is Koh Paluay which is inhabited by sea-gypsies who still earn there living from fishing. The park’s 40jungle –shrouded islands are inhabited by a variety of wild animals, spectacular rock formation, secret caves and hidden lagoons and it’s primordial beauty.

There are small islands which are perfect for diving and snorkeling like Koh Wao and Hin Yippon. The best way to explore the park is by sea kayaking and they are a few tour operators in samui who run a variety of day and overnight trips.

It is believed that one of the islands contains unusual saltwater lake hidden inside a hill in the landscape. Emerald lake called after its color, can be possibly be reached by climbing up the hill and squeezing through an opening where small step shave been carved out to take a look, it is not easy climb but the magnificent scenery is worth it.

The island ranges in a mere size of rock forms in the deep blue sea to little paradise islands with white beaches and coconut trees which inspired the partial filming of the film “ the beach” starring Leonardo Di Caprio and being in the marine park, gives a feeling of being an explorer.
